Toward a Sephardic Haplogroup Profile in the New World

Article in submission to International Journal of Sephardic Studies compares haplogroup profiles from Canary Islands, Azores, Puerto Rico, Cuba, Mexico, New Mexico and the Appalachians (Melungeons and Cumberland Gap) to suggest that R1b is far and away the most prevalent haplogroup in Sephardic Jewish populations. Its dominant position is likely the result of major conversion events in Southern France and Northern Spain about 1200 years ago.
