Amalia RodriguesPortuguese are people sampled in the country of Portugal. Portugal’s most famous musical artist, Amalia Rodrigues, was known as the Rainha do Fado (“Queen of Fado”) and was most influential in popularizing the fado worldwide. She died in 1999.
The Portuguese – White population data represent DNA samples from 146 unrelated individuals involved in paternity casts requested by the court. All individuals and their parents were natives of Portugal (Portuguese people), mostly from the southern region. Samples were obtained by the Forensic Biology Laboratory at the Institute of Legal Medicine in Lisbon, and by the Dept. of Legal Medicine in the Faculty of Medicine, at the University of Lisbon. Lisbon (Portugal-Lisbon) is the capital of Portugal, which is titled the Portuguese Republic (Portugal).

The Portuguese – Northern population data represent DNA samples from 427 unrelated individuals born in the northern part of Portugal, north of the Douro River (Norte Region, Portugal; Porto). Samples were obtained by the Institute of Molecular Pathology and Immunology of the University of Porto in Portugal, as well as the university’s Faculty of Sciences.

The Portuguese – Northern population data represent DNA samples from 108 unrelated individuals born in the northern part of the Portuguese Republic, north of the Douro River (Norte Region, Portugal;  Porto), and from individuals of the Galicia region in the northwest corner of the Kingdom of Spain ((U.S. Relations With Spain and Spain). Samples were obtained by the Institute of Molecular Pathology and Immunology at the University of Porto in Portugal, and by the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Santiago de Compostela in Spain.
