Four New Native American Populations Added

DNA Consultants announced it has added four newly completed Native American populations to its reference database atDNA 11.4. They are Native American – Alabama (541), Canada – Eastern Metis (538), Euchee (539) and Texas Cherokee (540). The additions cap several years of work and enlisted over 100 volunteer donors, all of whom took a Basic American Indian DNA or Native American Indian DNA Fingerprint test.
Introduced beginning in 2006, the company’s line of autosomal DNA fingerprint tests computes matches to living forensic populations and suggests specific European, Native American, Jewish, Romani and other ethnic ancestries based on population structure. Almost all other DNA testing companies rely on theoretical genetic algorithms, some of it years out-of-date, not current published scientific data and ethnic group identity comparisons.
This August, DNA Consultants unveiled its new line of customizable ancestry certificates, which includes four artisan designs. The Native American, Cherokee Firebloom and Jewish variations have proved most popular. All certificates, just like test kits, are shipped to the customer free by FedEx Express.
The company database now contains nearly 100 North and South American indigenous populations, some labeled with tribal names, some not, plus Melungeon, Hispanic and related populations. U.S. Cherokee Admixed (n=62) and (n=92) were added in 2014 and 2017, and U.S. Cherokee Enrolled (n=33) in 2018, respectively. U.S. Shawnee Enrolled (n=24) and U.S. Shawnee Admixed (n=53) went into effect in July 2022, and Abenaki (n=19) in January of 2023.
