Order a medical literature report listing studies relating to genetic disorders linked to your particular female (mtDNA) haplotype.
There are over 4,000 genetically linked diseases known to medical science, and many of these occur with greater frequency in certain ethnic groups than in others. Many are mitochondrial in transmission, with important consequences for family medical history.
The Linkage Disequilibrium Analysis is not a stand-alone report; it must be performed on existing results of a mitochondrial DNA test. You can add this report onto the Premium Female or Premium Combo DNA Test, or order separately if you have your mitochondrial test results from another company.
This search for mention of your haplotype and unique polymorphisms includes the following databases:
• MIM: Mendelian Inheritance in Man, an encyclopedic catalog of genetic disorders. This is the “bible” for scientific papers reporting research on autosomal, X-linked, Y-linked and mitochondrial genes. McKusick, V. A., gen. ed. (1998) Mendelian Inheritance in Man, 3 vols. Baltimore: The Johns Hopkins University Press. OMIM is the online version, available at the Online Mendelian Inheritance in Man
• Mitomap, a human mitochondrial genome database with thousands of references to medical studies.
• GDB: The official worldwide database at Johns Hopkins University for the annotation of the human genome. Originally used to organize chromosome mapping data during the earliest days of the human genome project, the polymorphism data were also used for cytogenetics, forensic testing, and hunting disease genes. Since then, the number of labs doing genetic testing has grown a thousand fold, thanks to the development of PCR and the release of the draft human genome. A free community resource now building forensic and human genomic identity data, available online at .
• PubMed: A vast bibliography of medical books and journal articles at the National Library of Medicine. Available online through Entrez at PubMed.
