Hypervariable region 1 of the D-loop of mitochondrial DNA ranges from nucleotide position (np) 16001-16570.Our genomics lab looks at the range extending from np 16020 to np 16569 and determines its base (A, G, C or T) for our mitochondrial DNA ancestry tests.
