DNA Consulting Opens on Southwest Side

DNA Consulting has opened for business in new offices on the southwest side and launched an online store and information service for people interested in exploring their DNA through home testing. The genetic genealogy company moved to Santa Fe last August from Savannah, Ga.

DNA has been called the best thing to happen to genealogy since online public databases like FamilySearch, a major initiative of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Mormons). DNA Consulting offers home cheek-swab tests that can help family history enthusiasts get past a "brick wall" in tracing their male and female lines. Barring porn, genealogy has emerged in the past couple of years as the most popular use of the Internet.

"We feel very fortunate to be located in an city that has both a rich history and dynamic scientific base," said Donald Yates, owner/operator, a classical studies and history professor from Georgia. "Add to that Santa Fe's strong anthropological interests, Native and Hispanic populations, and thriving traditions of art, writing and what might be called the spiritual sciences, and we foresee a happy match."
